About Camp Sandy Cove

Camp Sandy Cove began its ministry in Maryland in 1950 as Camp Sandy Hill for boys. The next year, a girls' camp was formed and was named Camp Sandy Cove. In 1979, the boys' and girls' camps were combined to form Camp Sandy Hill. In 1993, we moved to a rented location in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. We also returned to the name Camp Sandy Cove for Boys and Girls.

In October 2003, Sandy Cove Ministries purchased an existing camp along with nearly 200 acres of property in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near the town of High View, West Virginia. This has quickly become the home of Camp Sandy Cove. Having completed our fifth successful summer season at this location in 2008, we are excited about the many options and improvements our West Virginia location has to offer.

Even though we have gone through many changes in our 59-year history, our focus has not changed. Camp Sandy Cove is dedicated to sharing the message of salvation through Jesus Christ, and to helping young people develop a relationship with their Creator.

Philosophy

The goals of Camp Sandy Cove are achieved by the careful administration of 6 simple philosophies. They are as follows:

  1. Personal interaction between counselors and campers
Camp Sandy Cove boasts a ratio of 1 staff member for every 3 campers. This allows for small groups and personal interaction with quality staff.

  2. Achievement
The daily program of camp is designed to encourage campers to achieve. Activities emphasize skill and integrative learning. Principles of Christian living are also taught in all activity areas.

  3. Creative Action
Activities allow for campers to exercise creativity and imagination.

  4. Participation
Campers are encouraged to take part in all phases of the program.

  5. Respect & Stewardship
We teach campers to respect nature as a creation of the Most High God, and to realize that a responsibility of man is to practice good stewardship of all that is provided.

  6. To lead campers to salvation and help them grow in Christ
Campers are involved in devotions, chapels, cabin Bible studies and discussions to help them grow in their knowledge and commitment to Christ. Staff are employed that will demonstrate an active Spirit-filled life.
