About Us

Camp Sandy Cove has a long history of offering exciting, life-changing programs for our campers. We offer many program elements that make us thrilling, unique and effective…great day trips, unique activities, weekly cookouts, awesome cabin nights, and incredible theme week programs. Most of all, Jesus Christ is the focus of our program. We have chapels, cabin Bible studies, and all-camp times of worship, singing and spiritual growth. It's awesome!

Camp Sandy Cove is a non-profit, non-denominational, Christian camp for boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 15 – dedicated to sharing the message of salvation through Jesus Christ and to helping young people develop a relationship with their Creator. Located 25 minutes west of Winchester, Virginia in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of West Virginia, Camp Sandy Cove is proud of our tradition of offering “Christian camping at its best.” Our accreditation by the American Camp Association (ACA) and our membership with the Christian Camp and Conference Association (CCCA) demonstrate our commitment to excellence. Camp Sandy Cove welcomes all children, regardless of race, religion or national origin.

Camp Sandy Cove is the youth camp of Sandy Cove Ministries.

Meet the Camp Director

Chief Tim Nielsen - Director of Camp Sandy Cove
Tim has been the director of Camp Sandy Cove since 1989. He has a Master’s Degree in Christian Education from Columbia International University. Tim is the President of the Keystone Regional Council of Leaders of the American Camp Association (ACA). Tim has also helped to start and operate camps in Russia and Australia. Tim’s wife, Adina, works with him at camp and runs the riding program.

As a child I had the unique opportunity to attend Camp Sandy Cove (formerly Camp Sandy Hill) every summer. This experience was crucial to my development. Not only did I learn skills like archery, outdoor living and crafts, I also developed friendships with other campers and staff that helped me to grow.

These times were the best!

Most importantly, as a camper, I remember learning what it meant to be a Christian. This knowledge, and the example of the staff at camp, impacted me in such a way that I dedicated my life to full-time service for Christ.

Every summer I renew a commitment to find staff who will continue to impact campers as my counselors did. All staff members attend at least seven days of staff training each year to sharpen their skills and prepare spiritually for the summer. Staff members are taught to provide spiritual guidance and to show the unconditional love of Jesus Christ to campers, parents and each other. These young men and women stand out among their peers; they model a healthy Christian life, and they can't wait to meet your children!

I hope that your child will be joining me for the experience of a lifetime.

See ya at camp!

Statement of Faith

The mission of Sandy Cove Ministries and Camp Sandy Cove is to help you connect with God and each other in order to be transformed into the image of Christ through His Word, His creation and community.

Though certain doctrinal distinctives are expressed below, the programs and facilities of Camp Sandy Cove are enjoyed by a wide cross-section of denominations.

We subscribe to the following beliefs:

  1. The divine inspiration and consequent authority of the whole Canonical Scriptures
  2. The doctrine of the Trinity
  3. The doctrine of the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in power and glory
  4. The fall of man, his consequent moral depravity, and his need of regeneration
  5. The atonement through the substitutionary death of Christ
  6. The doctrine of justification by faith
  7. The present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life
  8. The resurrection of the body, both in the case of the just and the unjust
  9. The eternal life of the saved and the eternal punishment of the lost
